CattleFax Discovery Will Help You Navigate the Markets

NASHVILLE, TENN. (January 31, 2007) - Cattlemen trying to sift through volumes of information to understand what is going on in the cattle market right now have a new tool to help them cut through the clutter. CattleFax, a Denver-based market and information analysis firm, today introduced a market-at-a-glance tool called Discovery. CattleFax Discovery will be available to CattleFax members in late February.

Like the dashboard in your car, this Web-based tool will allow you to make a quick check of what's going on in the markets. With a glance, producers will know what is up or down. Similar to your car's dashboard, Discovery's front page will reflect what is happening in the different systems that drive the market. If a member wants to find out more about the cattle futures, corn market, or cattle inventories a click of the mouse will provide more in-depth information about the topic of their interest.

"People have told us that there's so much information circulating right now that it's difficult to pull it all together in some form that makes sense," said CattleFax Vice President Randy Blach. "That's what Discovery is built to do. With a glance you will be able to tell what the market is doing that affects your business. And if you want more information, a quick mouse click will let you drill down to view data and chart behind the display.

The day's futures market prices will be shown with a 10-minute delay. On the top of the screen margin indicator gauges will show current break-even prices for fed cattle and packers calculated on a national aggregate price. Information will change as the underlying data changes and will use both CattleFax data and USDA information.

Cattlemen also will be able to check Omaha corn prices, Kansas City wheat, the Dow Jones prices and crude oil prices. Showlist numbers from the top four cattle feeding states (Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska and the Texas Panhandle) also will be online, as well as month to date and weekly averages for feedlot placements and shipments.

"Everyone knows how volatile the market has been the last couple years," Blach said. "Discovery will make tracking easier and help you find market opportunities."
